What
Should I Do With the Second Half
of My Life?
Has
it occurred to you yet that you
are living in a very special
time?
· You have potentially been
given 30 years of extra life.
· You are part of the most
highly educated and skilled
generation in history.
· You have been given a level
of financial independence
unmatched in history.
· You have been given almost
infinite choice in what you do
with your life.
Have you begun to recognize that
these blessings are not simply
human progress, but instead come
from the hand of God and that
God must have some purpose in
mind for your use of them?
Have you started thinking that
maybe these extra years and
opportunities are not just a
reward for your years of hard
work in career but perhaps a
chance to use the second half of
your life to exercise your true
vocation, serving God and your
fellow man?
If so, and youre beginning to
see that maybe God has a special
purpose and mission for your
second half, Id love to work
with you as your coach to help
you begin to develop answers to
some intriguing questions:
· What could I do with the
second half of my life?
· Who could I become?
· How could God use the
uniqueness he has given me to
serve Him, to serve others?
· What kind of strategy and
plan should I adopt to make
significance the focus of my
second half?

Your
Job Search -- A Call to Grow!
Personal
growth and development are often
byproducts of the job search
process. Here are four ways you
can grow if you'll allow it to
happen.
1. In Boldness. Doing things we
are not totally comfortable with
and taking personal risk are
often key to our job search
success. Usually, these are
things as simple as making phone
calls or asking people for help
in making contacts. What often
makes these hard are fear of
rejection and fear of failure.
To help overcome these fears,
write and rehearse your script,
make a list of people to call,
and set aside a specific
uninterrupted time to make the
calls.
But most important, allow
yourself to become ten times
bolder!
2. In Honesty with Yourself.
Inventory your strengths and
weaknesses, and be honest with
yourself on both counts. Avoid
falling in the trap of
overstating your strengths or
weaknesses, especially to
yourself. Then use what you
learn to focus your job search
on your strengths.
It's also important to be honest
with yourself regarding adapting
to change. Most of us like
change if it's our idea but not
if it's something that's
happening to us. Your ability to
develop a positive outlook
toward change will significantly
affect the outcome of your job
search.
3. In Relationships. Statistics
tell us that about 70% of jobs
are found through other people,
not through job ads or web
sites. Growing our relationships
and developing new ones is not
optional in a job search.
On the one hand, we become more
reliant on others. We need their
assistance, their support, and
their encouragement. On the
other hand, we can find new
opportunities to serve others
during this time. Spend time
reconnecting, building new
connections, and volunteering.
4. In Spirituality. Being
between jobs is one of those
life events that reminds us that
we are not all-sufficient nor
are we in control, and that we
need a God who is. As we have
more available time, it's a
great season to strengthen our
relationship with Him.
It's also a great time to be
reminded that your spiritual
self is what's ultimately
important, even when you're
feeling rejection from job loss.
Allow this event to grow you
spiritually.
Persistence:
The Key to Achieving Goals
"Nothing
in the world can take the place
of persistence.
Talent will not -- nothing is
more common that unsuccessful
people with talent.
Genius will not -- unrewarded
genius is almost a proverb.
Education alone will not -- the
world is filled with educated
derelects.
Persistence and determination
alone are omnipotent."
This quote from Gary Owens, the
entertainer, has been
distributed in many forms
worldwide because the principle
it communicates is so important
to success in any endeavor.
Lack of persistence is by far
the number one reason people
fail to achieve their goals in
every aspect of life.
If the goal cannot be achieved
easily or "just
happen," we find it easy to
give up with the intention of
starting again later.
Whether it's achieving business
and career goals, or losing
weight and exercising regularly,
or integrating the spiritual
disciplines into our lives, our
failure to succeed rests on our
lack of persistence. We want to
enjoy the rewards of achieving
our goal, but because doing so
requires persistence and because
the reward is not immediate,
it's easier in the present to
stop trying and promise
ourselves we'll do it later.
While no one can be persistent
for you, one of the primary
reasons life coaching is so
effective is that you have
someone who helps you keep going
toward your goal when the little
voice within you says,
"Stop and rest - you can
always start moving again
later."
What important goals are you not
achieving?
How valuable would it be if you
did achieve them?
Why not make an investment in
yourself and give coaching a
try?

Quotes About Persistence
"Don't
give up. Keep going. There is
always a chance that you will
stumble into something terrific.
I have never heard of someone
stumbling over something while
he was sitting down." Ann
Landers
"How do we break out of the
box we're stuck in? There are
lots of reasons why we stay in
the box, but the number one
reason is fear of failure."
David Winkler
"You really don't know what
your true potential is until
you've pushed yourself beyond
your limits." Debi Thomas
"You accomplish victory
step by step, not by leaps and
bounds." Lyn St. James
